  Thad was the prime initiator of special legislative funding for:


Internet Access and additional computers for Montgomery County High, Georgia Washington Fitzpatrick, Dunbar, Davis, Bellingrath, Harrison, Peter Crump, and Seth Johnson Schools

Renovation of Gym at Peter Crump School

Construction of Outdoor Gym at Fitzpatrick School

Rebuilding of burned lab/Technology Building at Montgomery County High School

Construction/Expansion of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Montgomery

Construction/Expansion of the Kershaw YMCA  


Elderly Care


Helped fund the Johnnie R. Carr Adult
Day Care Center

Conceptualized and helped make Rosa Parks Place a reality

Facilitated the procurement of financial and development resources for the St Jude Center for the Elderly.

Helped investigate the water quality of the Waugh Community Water System and related health problems

Opposed and stopped construction of the Hickory Bend Sewer Plant

Opposed and stopped construction of mega Hog Farm in Pike Road

Helped upgrade the Oak Hill Water

Worked for expansion of other Rural Water Works Project

Helped recruit the Baptist Outreach Health Center at 88 South Boulevard

Helped obtain land to construct the Waugh-Mt. Meigs Fire Department


  Economic Development


Promoted the planning and development of the Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights Trail

Conceptualized the Fairview Farmers Market presently under construction

Promoted Regional Industrial Parks in Alabama Black Belt Counties, including one in Montgomery County

Promoted the four-laning of U.S. Highway 80 throughout Alabama and have procured the designation of funding

Obtained funding for preservation of Mrs. Rosa Parks’ childhood school

Assisted with the procurement of funds for relocation of the Nat King Cole House

Conceptualized the I-65 Hub Zone Park and the I-65/Regional Airport Business Park sites in Montgomery

Promoted the development of St. Jude Interpretive Center and the multi-million dollar National Parks Service Facility at I-65/Fairview Exit
As one of its Founders, promoted the Small Business Incubator of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce

Supported the refurbishing of the house occupied by the Montgomery Federation of Women’s Clubs

Successfully challenged the disproportionate population of Montgomery Police Crime District 13

Identified the site for a proposed regional industrial park in our Black Belt report: Hyundai $1billion plant under construction

Promoted the paving of all remaining unpaved roads in rural Montgomery County, including sections of Woodley Road, Long Road, and Collier Road

Stopped location of Greyhound Bus Station in Woodley Park and helped in its relocation to the present South Boulevard site

Successfully stopped the closing of Matthews Post Office by the U.S. Postal Service

Successfully challenged the lack of minority representation in the Montgomery Metropolitan Planning Organization

Negotiated the re-routing of Montgomery’s Outer Loop right-of-way to minimize the acquisition of family homes and businesses
